Your monthly payment at HerHeart Homes includes furnished living space, all utilities (electricity, water, gas), internet access, access to common areas and kitchen facilities, and regular home maintenance. We also provide basic security measures and supportive services to help you connect with community resources.
Are there background or credit checks?
HerHeart Homes operates on a Housing First approach, which means we have minimal barriers to entry. While we do conduct basic background screenings for safety purposes, we don't require perfect rental history or credit scores. We review applications on a case-by-case basis and work with individuals who may have faced housing challenges in the past.
Do you have availability now?

How do I join the waitlist?
If we don't have immediate availability that meets your needs, you can join our waitlist by completing our preliminary application form online or in person at our office. What kind of homes do you offer?
HerHeart Homes offers a variety of housing options throughout Greater Houston, including single-family homes and multi-unit properties. Each home accommodates 1-5 residents, with both private rooms and shared accommodations available, depending on your preferences and budget.
Are meals included?
While meals are not included in our standard program, all residents have full access to kitchen facilities for meal preparation.
Application Process
Who qualifies for HerHeart Homes?
Our housing is designed for seniors, veterans, and individuals who have experienced homelessness in the Greater Houston Area. We work with people from various backgrounds who need safe, affordable housing and support in their journey toward stability.
How long is the application process?
Once we receive your completed application, we typically process it within 3-5 business days. If approved, move-in can often be arranged within 1-2 weeks, depending on availability.
What documents do I need to apply?
Basic identification is required to begin the application process. Our team will work with you and your caseworker if applicable to gather whatever documentation you have and help you obtain any missing documents needed for your housing journey.
Is there an application fee?
HerHeart Homes is committed to low-barrier housing. We do not charge application fees to individuals seeking our housing services.
Can I have visitors?
Yes, residents may have pre-approved visitors during designated hours. For the safety and comfort of all residents, we ask that visitors sign in and out, and we have strict policies regarding NO overnight guests under any circumstances that will be explained during your orientation.
How long can I stay?
There is no predetermined time limit for residency at HerHeart Homes. Some residents transition to other housing within a year, while others may choose to stay longer. We work with each resident individually to support their unique housing goals.
Are there rules that I have to follow?
Yes, we have basic community guidelines designed to ensure everyone's safety, comfort, and dignity. These include respecting shared spaces, maintaining reasonable noise levels, and participating in monthly home meetings. Our complete client handbook will be provided during move-in.
Do you provide transportation?
We don't provide direct transportation services but our homes are selected for their proximity to public transportation.

As a property owner, you lease your property to HerHeart Homes, and we handle the day-to-day management, resident selection, and property oversight. This arrangement provides you with reliable income while supporting our mission to house vulnerable community members.

We seek single-family homes and multi-unit properties in safe Houston neighborhoods with access to public transportation, grocery stores, and essential services. Ideal properties have 3+ bedrooms to accommodate multiple residents

How can I donate?
We welcome donations that help us fulfill our mission. Absolutely! We gratefully accept gently used furniture and household essentials. Current needs typically include beds, dressers, sofas, dining tables and chairs, kitchen supplies, and small appliances. Please contact us before delivering items to ensure we have current needs and storage capacity.
Can I sponsor a specific aspect of your program?
Yes, we offer sponsorship opportunities for individuals, groups, and businesses. You can sponsor a resident's first month of housing, furnish an entire home, or support specific programs. Contact our development team to discuss sponsorship options that align with your giving goals.

What volunteer opportunities are available?
We offer various volunteer opportunities including:

How do I become a volunteer?
To begin volunteering with HerHeart Homes, complete our volunteer application form online or contact our volunteer coordinator at welcome@herhearthomes.com. After submitting your application, you'll be invited to attend an orientation session to learn more about our mission and available opportunities.
Is there a minimum time commitment for volunteers?
While we appreciate any time you can give, we find that volunteers make the most impact with a commitment of at least 4 hours per month.
Do I need special skills to volunteer?
No special skills are required for many of our volunteer positions. We welcome people with a compassionate heart and willingness to serve. That said, we do have specific needs for those with professional skills in areas such as healthcare, legal services, financial coaching, and home maintenance.
Can groups volunteer together?
Yes! We welcome volunteer groups from businesses, faith communities, schools, and civic organizations. Group activities might include home refurbishment projects, community meal preparation, or seasonal donation drives. Do volunteers receive training?
